Board Member
Reia Chapman, MSW, LISW, LCSW-CP, The Decolonized Psychotherapist™, is a professional social worker, activist, facilitator, keynote speaker and entrepreneur. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Social Work degree from Savannah State University. Reia believes that centering culture is synonymous with achieving wellness as evidenced in her work as Director of Clinical Services with the Center for Family & Maternal Wellness, an outpatient psychotherapy practice she founded in 2016.

Based in Charlotte, NC Reia has invested over two decades in service to marginalized communities that are navigating intersecting oppressions. She has an extensive background within the Equality, Reproductive and Racial Justice movements and when she is not practicing as a therapist, she works to shift the culture of service delivery within the mental health field through her non-profit organization, the Social Justice Emotional Response Collective and her education platform Decolonizing Therapy, a training series of decolonized frameworks for healthcare providers, corporations and academic institutions.

Reia specializes in working with Black Women and Queer and Trans People of Color. She is clinically trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Reia works with couples to increase respect, affection, and closeness, break through and resolve conflict, generate greater understanding between partners, keep conflict discussions calm and maintain improvements in the relationship.

Reia joined Transcend Charlotte as a member of the Board of Directors in 2020 and also currently serves as a board member with the Center for Gender and Sexual Wellness, is an active member of the North Carolina Black Leadership and Organizing Collective, the North Carolina Black Women’s Roundtable, the Queer and Trans People of Color Collective (QTPoCC), the Charlotte Transgender Healthcare Group (CTHCG), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and has been featured in various articles and publications for her work in advancing the field of mental health in Social Work.
